New Free Company Information Service Offers Job Seekers a Refreshingly New Perspective

When I speak at employment and community resource centre events about the challenges of finding work, I am often asked about tools that could help job seekers to learn about potential employers. At a recent business conference in Toronto, I learned about a quite impressive and fairly new free online information service called BizCompare.com that could come quite handy to some job seekers. It enables its visitors to research businesses in the United States. Unfortunately, BizCompare.com does not currently include information about Canadian businesses. However, I believe that it provides a very unique new perspective that could benefit Canadian job seekers as well.

Free Workshop for Toronto Employers Discusses the Challenges of Hiring and Retaining Immigrants

Our community partners at Sheridan College in Oakville have just sent us information about a free workshop for employers that they are hosting in partnership with the Peel Halton Workforce Development Group, titled “A World of Talen at Your Doorsteps”. The workshop’s focus is on recruiting and retain immigrants, in light of the fact that by 2013, immigration to Canada will account for virtually all of the net job growth. (more…)

Employers Wanted for an Upcoming Job Fair in Mississauga in March

The Peel Halton Workforce Development Group, in partnership with Sheridan College and other government-sponsored employment services organizations in Peel and Halton Regions, are hosting their annual Peel and Halton job fair in Mississauga on March 30th. They are now looking for employers interested in participating in the event.

This event is partially funded by Employment Ontario, so the cost to employers is fairly low - $150 for “virtual” participation and $500 for an actual booth, and provides an opportunity to meet thousands of job seekers. If you are interested, you can find out more at the web site of the event, at:

Free Seminar on Hiring Demand Trends in the GTA

On Monday, January 10th, 2011, Vicinity Jobs will deliver a free seminar in partnership with Sheridan College on the topic of Hiring Demand Trends in the Greater Toronto Area.

The seminar will be lead by Strac Ivanov - the co-founder of Vicnity Jobs - and features an overview of the impact that the economic slowdown of the past two years has had on hiring demand in GTA’s suburban communities. Labour market trends  information from a variety of sources will be presented and explained, including VicinityJobs.com, Statistics Canada, and local municipalities. A special emphasis is placed on the industrial landscape shaping the employment markets in GTA’s suburbs.

The seminar will start at 9 am on January 10th, and will take place in the Sheridan College Halton location. Admission is free, but registration is required.
