Have you ever considered pursuing a career in a skilled trade? If you have, then one of the major questions you want answered is how to become an apprentice.

An apprentice is a worker that works in a specific trade as a part of their hands on training. Being an apprentice has advantages because you earn money as you learn, and employers are able to teach valuable skills.

To become an apprentice, it is necessary to have completed your high school diploma with science and math experience. Once you have graduated, you must look for an employer that is seeking an apprentice. You can do this by searching for a specific trade of interest in your local area and contacting them personally.

Once you find an employer, either yourself or the employer will contact the nearest Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to set up an appointment to meet with a training consultant that will come to assess the training available for you. The consultant will set up a contract between you and the employer. At this point, you will be a registered apprentice.

In addition to your training at work, you will also be required to attend some theory classes to complete your apprentice training. There isn't a specific amount of time to complete an apprenticeship, as it varies depending on the skilled trade that you choose to pursue.

Once completed, it may be necessary to complete a test in order to receive your Certificate of Apprenticeship.

Becoming an apprentice is a commitment that allows you to learn a skilled trade while being paid for your work. If you are a hands-on hardworking person, maybe an apprenticeship is right for you!
